Making Ends Meet in Howard County

On September 21, 2012 The Association of Community  Services released Making Ends Meet in Howard County, the first comprehensive look at Howard County’s low wage workers.

Making Ends Meet uncovers a strong correlation between public assistance and self-sufficiency, the ability of low-income households to feed, clothe and house themselves, get medical care, pay taxes, and travel to work. Findings highlight the financial risks Howard County families face as they move  from dependence on public benefits to self sufficiency while working in jobs that pay too little to meet the County's high cost of living. The report was prepared by researchers from Johns Hopkins University’s Institute for Policy Studies for the Policy Analysis Center on behalf of ACS.
