Developing public policy priorities with members; then advocating for them is central to the ACS mission.  The Public Policy Committee, made up of representatives from very diverse sectors of the membership, considers issues and recommends priorities to the ACS Board of Directors.

Advocacy occurs in the community, with elected officials, locally, regionally, and at the state level.

ACS invites elected officials to meet with members at General Membership Meetings.  In election years, it also hold candidates' forums, often in collaboration with the League of Women Voters.

Regularly monitoring legislation for opportunities to testify is an ongoing charge of the Public Policy Committee.

Priority Issues Papers along with letter of support and testimony can be found in this section of the website.

The
2013-2014 Advocacy Priorities as established by the Public Policy Committee with approval from the ACS Board of Directors has been completed.  Supporting materials providing data and background information will be posted here in January 2013.
