Advocacy 101
December 13, 2018 - 1:00 - 4:00 pm
NPC 9770 Patuxent Woods Dr., Columbia, MD 21046

2019 will bring major turnover in our state legislature, demands for major new funding and, likely, new gambling and tax proposals.  Join us for an overview of these and other major issues nonprofits will face in the upcoming General Assembly, and learn how to have a stronger voice in important decisions affecting your community.   Take this opportunity to discuss and know more about setting advocacy goals and objectives, the policy-making process and how to influence it, the basics of Maryland's budget and legislative processes, and legal issues for tax-exempt policy advocates.

Presenter - Henry Bogdan, Policy and Advocacy Director, Maryland Nonprofits

Henry Bogdan joined Maryland Nonprofits as Director of Public Policy in 1997 after a 20-year career in policy analysis, advocacy, and government relations for the City of Baltimore. He is responsible for implementing Maryland Nonprofits' Public Policy program and assisting organizations with legal or practical questions arising from their own advocacy efforts. Henry's background in nonprofit tax-exemption issues, his broad knowledge of federal and state laws governing nonprofit organizations (including fundraising regulations), and his familiarity with government processes and the inner workings of state and local legislative bodies make him an ideal speaker and trainer.
Henry is a graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School.
