Board Excellence Workshop-
Feb. 26, 2019, 4:30-7:30 pm(This program is presented by ACS in partnership with Maryland NonProfits) 

Board Excellence is suitable for organizations big and small, regardless of mission focus. This program is most appropriate for organizations with paid staff. To get the maximum benefit, we strongly encourage at least two board members and one senior-level staff member register to participate. Staff members are discouraged from attending without a board member.

Event Details:

This Board Excellence Workshop is an interactive program that covers the most important aspects of boards. Participants will leave with clarity about the roles and responsibilities of the board of directors as a governing body and the roles of staff members versus board members.

 Participants will explore:


·         What it means to be legal and socially accountable

·         Principles of sound financial oversight

·         The board’s role in fundraising

·         The role of the board as "employer”  

·         Board conduct and how to develop a well-rounded, effective board of
  directors


Each participant will receive Maryland Nonprofits’ Board Excellence Handbook (a $25 value).



Trainer Bio:  Mara Winters provides training, technical assistance, and consulting in the areas of board governance, nonprofit management, organizational development, board development and engaging boards in fundraising. She has provided board training and consulting services to hundreds of  nonprofit organizations. Thousands of individuals have attended her trainings through local and national conference sessions as well as both the Maryland Nonprofits and BVU Maryland ongoing training programs. She has a high energy, entertaining and engaging training style.  Prior to joining the staff of Maryland Nonprofits, Ms. Winters worked for several nonprofits in Buffalo, New York including the Greater Buffalo Development Corporation and the World University Games. She has served on numerous boards and committees throughout her career. She holds a BA in Urban Planning, an MS in Applied Public Affairs, and a Masters of Urban Planning from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
