GENERAL MEETING: De-stigmatizing Mental Illness and Violent Behavior

During this General Meeting, we ask that attendees come with open minds and are ready to share in small group discussions.

The increase in situations regarding violent behavior and the stigma that mentally ill persons are to blame, leads us to wonder how Howard County is coping with and handling the issue. ACS feels this is an important community topic to share, listen, and learn. While we might not have ‘solutions,’ we can start the conversation together as a community.

Subject Matter Experts already scheduled to attend include:

HC DrugFree:
Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director

Department of Corrections:
Jack Kavanagh

Howard County Mental Health Authority
Donna Wells, Executive Director

Howard County Police Department
William J. McMahon, Chief of Police

Howard County Public School System:
Dr. Craig Cummings, Coordinator, Alternative Education and Pupil Personnel
Dr. Cynthia A. Schulmeyer, Coordinator, School Psychology & Instructional Intervention

Jesse Guercio, Director, Behavioral Health Services

NAMI Howard County:
Beverley Francis-Gibson, Executive Director
Steve Gray, Director of Programs & Development

This event is planned for ACS members, but open to the public. This is a great session for staff to attend.

Please register in advance.
